This year's theme "Love is Ageless" was selected by the American Healthcare Association. (AHCA) to invite participants to look back and look forward with activities that are focused on preserving memories, promoting intergenerational relationships, and recognizing staff members who provide quality care. The AHCA has a planning guide in PDF format that can be printed out. Plan to have several activities during the week that go with this year's theme. Start on Mother's Day the first day of National Nursing Home Week, May 11. Sunday may be a good day for a special program; open house, Mother's Day tea and a tour. Early in the week have a local elementary school class visit for an intergenerational program and work on a scrapbook activity. There are very easy to use activity available in our store. They have 15 easy activities that will help preserve memories and promote interaction. Have a middle school or high school industrial arts (Home Economics, Shop, etc.) class come to work on a project with your group. Work with the teacher on ideas. the project can be a simple one requiring only one meeting or one that takes longer. Many choruses and theater groups have their shows in May. Take your group on a field trip to a local performance. Invite friends and families to a special program or talent show put together by your group. Serve refreshments and display pictures and projects done by the group.
